ARTIST FOR THE AMAZON
The Amazon matters to me because it is a huge rainforest with so much environmental, cultural, and medical importance, affecting every being currently living on this planet. The destruction of the forest could damage the ways of life of so many, including the indigenous peoples who directly depend on it for survival, other living beings living in or around the forest, surrounding communities affected by lack of resources or pollution, and inevitably, everyone on this planet because the Amazon is the earth’s lungs. Containing the most biodiversity in the world, with new species discovered every day, the Amazon is a vital resource with a life of its own. The destruction of this forest could have impacts on ecosystems and our planet we don’t even know about. Being a passionate activist for our planet, I have always felt connected to our natural world as have so many others. Its destruction will also feel deeply personal, knowing that the environment we humans have evolved to live in is being destroyed for reasons such as gold mining and animal agriculture.
