ARTIST FOR THE AMAZON

Dean Dass

Testimonial

Wherever I travel – and paint – I think about our relationship within Nature. We live in a clearing in the forest, and that is both literally true and a great metaphor for that larger relationship. I think the artist has a responsibility to work for the greater good and to offer that work and life as a sacrifice. The best meaning of sacrifice is to make sacred. Let us renew those vows with our great mother Amazon.

About Dean Dass

Dean Dass studied art, philosophy and anthropology at the University of Northern Iowa, B.A. 1978. His M.F.A. is from The Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Philadelphia, 1980.

Early in his career, in the 1980s, he was invited to participate in three National Print Invitational Exhibitions at the Brooklyn Museum of Art (1981, 1983, 1989). He has also lectured and conducted workshops at South Carelia Polytechnic University, Imatra, and at the Fine Arts Academy in Helsinki. He has been exhibited three times in the international triennial exhibition Graphica Creativa, Jyväskylä, winning a Juror’s Prize in 1996; this prize led to subsequent exhibition opportunities in Finland, Sweden and Poland. A number of these exhibitions have included his artist’s books.
