CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA- Last night the Amazon Aid Foundation got jazzed up for the rainforest with our biggest fundraiser to date: a spectacular night of jazz with Grammy Award winners Wayne Shorter, Esperanza Spalding, Terri Lyne Carrington and Leo Genovese at Charlottesville’s historic Paramount Theater.

The quartet, featuring Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award-Winner Wayne Shorter on saxophone, Esperanza Spalding on bass, Terri Lyne Carrington on percussion, and Leo Genovese on piano, guided the audience through the beauty and wonder of the Amazon rainforest in a multimedia journey with live music backed stunning images of the Amazon rainforest taken by Artists for the Amazon Jon Golden and Dano Grayson.

A chorus of third and fourth grade students from Venable Elementary School kicked off the second act with a live rendition of the Anthem for the Amazon, a new composition produced by the Amazon Aid Foundation and Rotu Studios to engage the voices of children in the fight for the Amazon rainforest.

The show closed with smash hit ‘Endangered Species.’ Esperanza’s lyrics set to Wayne Shorter and Joe Vitarelli’s classic composition came to life in a beautiful video montage of Amazonian wildlife to show what’s at stake if we do not take action to protect one of the most biodiverse places on Earth.

We cannot show our thanks enough to everyone who helped make this possible. Thank you to everyone at the Paramount Theater, Red Light Management, Venable Elementary, and our dedicated team for all your hard work. A special heartfelt thanks goes out to our incredibly talented supporters Wayne Shorter, Esperanza Spalding, Terri Lyne Carrington and Leo Genovese for sharing their music with us all for the betterment of our planet.
