River of Gold Curriculum: Education That Saves Lives

Lesson Three: Biodiversity

This lesson guides students in understanding biodiversity not simply as the variety of life, but as a system of relationships where each species plays a role in maintaining ecosystem stability.

Students will explore the interconnectedness of Amazonian species, how fungi nourish trees, how birds spread seeds, how predators shape populations, and how plants create microclimates that allow life to thrive.

By exploring biodiversity through storytelling, visual thinking, and critical systems analysis, students begin to understand why protecting one species often means protecting many. In doing so, they’ll come to see biodiversity not just as a scientific idea, but as a reminder of how interwoven and precious all life really is, including their own.
