As a photographer Torben Ulrik Nissen has been documenting global humanitarian and ecological issues. In pursuit of these subjects he has traveled around the world for more than two decades to record and report on stories of consequence, from landmines in Angola to global warming in Greenland. His primary collaboration has been with Danish non-government organizations. He has sustained an extensive career as a writer, lecturer and designer of programs exploring the issues he has documented.
Over five years he has been traveling the Amazon with the American photographer Sam Abell. The book ‘Amazonia’ and two exhibitions in USA document their collaboration.
He is the co-founder of the online art gallery PostArt. It has been recognized as a Fair Trade Gallery, and PostArt seeks to give voice and a fair market to African artists. Most recently he is part of ’Art on the Run’, a project focusing on art and artists in refugee camps.
